Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Attacked During Public Hearing, Accused Taken Into Custody

New Delhi: A shocking incident occurred in the national capital when Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public hearing at her Civil Lines office. The accused has been identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva strongly condemned the attack.

A team of doctors is currently examining the Chief Minister, and officials confirmed that she is out of danger. Government sources said that while public hearings will continue, the format will change — people will no longer be allowed to approach the CM directly. Cabinet ministers Kapil Mishra and Manjinder Singh Sirsa have termed the incident a “political conspiracy.”

Police Nab the Attacker

According to BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the accused had come with some papers and shouted abusive words before attempting the assault. He was immediately overpowered by security personnel and handed over to the police. The investigation is underway. Kapoor hinted that the attacker could be a frustrated political worker.

CM Rekha Gupta Sustains Head Injury

BJP’s Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva, after meeting the Chief Minister, revealed that Rekha Gupta was listening to grievances when the attacker pulled her hand, causing her head to hit the table. The accused also allegedly shoved her.

Party sources said the attacker, around 41 years old, first handed some papers to the CM and then suddenly attacked her. Security guards quickly restrained him, and police are probing whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the incident.

There are also unconfirmed reports that the assailant slapped the CM, though BJP leaders have said that the details will be clear only after the police investigation.

Reactions to the Incident

Former Delhi CM Atishi condemned the attack in a post on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

“The attack on Delhi CM Rekha Gupta is highly condemnable. In a democracy, there is space for disagreement and protest, but there is no place for violence. I hope Delhi Police takes strict action against the culprits and that the CM is completely safe.”
