Special Trains: Indian Railways to Run 12,000 Trains During Festive Season for Easier Travel

National Desk: There’s good news for those planning to travel home this festive season for Diwali and Chhath Puja. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that Indian Railways will run as many as 12,000 special trains this year, a significant jump from the 7,500 trains operated last year. The move is aimed at tackling heavy festive rush and ensuring passengers a more comfortable journey.

Trains to Run from October 1 to November 15

According to the minister, these special trains will operate between October 1 and November 15. So far, the Railways has already issued notifications for 10,000 trains. Out of these, 150 trains will be completely unreserved, providing flexibility for last-minute travelers.

Update on Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains

Vaishnaw also shared updates on the much-awaited Vande Bharat Sleeper. The testing phase has been completed, and the second rake is expected by October 15. Once it arrives, two Vande Bharat Sleeper trains will be commissioned simultaneously.

New Routes Announced

The Railway Minister further revealed details about new services. A new Vande Bharat Express between Lucknow Junction and Saharanpur will cut down travel time significantly. In addition, a weekly Amrit Bharat Express between Madar Junction (Ajmer) and Darbhanga will serve passengers from lower and middle-income groups.

Focus on Punctuality and Passenger Ease

Vaishnaw also highlighted that punctuality within Indian Railways has improved. With these measures, the government hopes to make travel during Diwali and Chhath Puja smoother, safer, and more convenient for millions of passengers.
