Delhi-NCR Air Quality Deteriorates Ahead of Diwali: Ghaziabad Tops Pollution Chart
The festive glow of Diwali in the national capital has dimmed due to rising pollution levels. For the fourth consecutive day, the air quality in Delhi-NCR has remained in the poor category, casting a shadow over the celebrations. On Friday, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 254, which falls under the poor category—an increase of nine points compared to Thursday.
Health Concerns for Respiratory Patients
According to forecasts from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), air quality may deteriorate further and reach the very poor category by Monday. Doctors have warned that people suffering from respiratory or lung-related ailments may face increased difficulties. They have advised wearing masks and avoiding outdoor activities as much as possible.
Areas with Very Poor Air Quality
Official CPCB data shows that several areas in Delhi recorded very poor air quality levels. Anand Vihar reported an AQI of 360, Wazirpur 343, Jahangirpuri 331, Bawana 309, and North Campus 303 — all falling in the very poor range.
Ghaziabad Most Polluted in NCR
Among NCR cities, Ghaziabad emerged as the most polluted with an AQI of 306, placing it in the very poor category. Faridabad, on the other hand, had the cleanest air in the region with an AQI of 105, considered moderate. Meanwhile, Noida recorded 278, Gurugram 266, and Greater Noida 246 AQI levels respectively.
With air quality worsening just days before Diwali, residents are urged to celebrate responsibly and take precautions to safeguard their health.
