Third Indian Near Surface Geophysics Conference Held in Delhi; Experts Honored with Distinguished Awards
New Delhi: AF Academy and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) jointly organized the third “Indian Near Surface Geophysics” conference on 13–14 November at Hotel The Suryaa in New Delhi. Across India and around the world, Near Surface Geophysics is today widely used for engineering, environmental studies, mining, groundwater exploration, archaeological investigations, and forensic applications.
During the conference, experts conducted two specialized workshops focusing on “Advances in Geophysical Investigations, Geo-technical Instruments, Dam Repair & Rehabilitation Technology” and “Sub-surface Characterization of Contaminated Sites Using Geophysics.”
Several awards were presented under individual and organizational categories, including the Global Near Surface Geophysics Award and the Dam Safety Award. Renowned geophysicist Dr. A. N. Bhowmik was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award (Groundwater Geophysics). Engineer D. K. Sharma received the National Honor for Global Leadership in Dam Safety, while Engineer Vivek Kapadia was conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award in Dam Safety.
Many distinguished personalities addressed the conference, including Marcel van Loon (Executive Director, EAGE Holding BV), Dr. A. K. Chaturvedi (Former Additional Director, Atomic Minerals Directorate), Dr. R. Chitra (Director, CSMRS), Dr. Gopal Dhawan (Former CMD, MECL & Founder–President, DDAG), Dr. V. M. Tiwari (Director, CSIR-NEIST & J. C. Bose National Fellow), Er. D. K. Sharma (President, ICOLD), and Dr. Sanjay Rana (Chairman, AF Academy).
The aim of the conference was to bring together various stakeholders, facilitate knowledge sharing, and discuss ways to expand the application of geophysics across multiple sectors. The event also featured an exhibition showcasing emerging technologies and products in the field of geophysics.
According to the organizers, the technical committee received scientific paper abstracts from nine countries on various conference themes. Of these, 44 full papers have been invited for presentation and discussion during the event.
