IndiGo Cancels 60 Flights from Bengaluru, Plans to Operate Over 1,950 Flights Today: Sources

National Desk: Troubled airline IndiGo on Thursday cancelled 60 flights from Bengaluru Airport. These cancellations come at a time when the airline has announced plans to operate more than 1,950 flights today under the supervision of aviation regulator DGCA. The oversight follows major disruptions caused by failures related to implementing new duty-time norms for pilots and crew.

According to sources, “IndiGo has cancelled 60 flights from Bengaluru Airport, including 32 arrivals and 28 departures.”

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has summoned IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers on Thursday to present a comprehensive report with data and updated details on the recent operational disruptions.

In a statement, the airline said it “expects to operate more than 1,950 flights today.”

IndiGo usually operates more than 2,200 flights daily across its national and domestic network under the winter schedule. However, the government has already reduced this schedule by 10% to help the airline “stabilise” its operations and reduce cancellations, which had surged to 1,600 on December 5.

On Wednesday, the airline cancelled 220 flights across three major airports—Delhi, Bengaluru, and Mumbai—with Delhi seeing the highest number of cancellations at 137. IndiGo Chairman Vikram Mehta addressed the crisis publicly for the first time in 10 days on Wednesday, apologising for the chaos at airports and attributing the widespread disruptions to a combination of internal and external “unforeseen” events.
