Holi Gift for Delhiites: Free LPG Cylinder Announced, Big Move by Rekha Gupta Government

National Desk: Ahead of the festive season, the Delhi government has announced a major relief for economically weaker families. The Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved a scheme to provide free LPG cylinders on the occasions of Holi and Diwali. This decision is expected to directly benefit lakhs of poor families across the national capital.

The government stated that this step is an important move towards fulfilling the BJP’s election promises and is being offered as a public welfare gift on the completion of one year of the government.


Complete Details of the Scheme

Under this scheme, EWS ration card holder families will be eligible for the benefit.

  • Focus: Woman head of the family
  • Benefit: Cost of one LPG cylinder on Holi and Diwali
  • Amount: Approximately ₹850 to ₹853 per cylinder
  • Payment Mode: Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)
  • Coverage: Around 17.5 lakh families
  • Budget Allocation: ₹242 crore approved by the Cabinet (some estimates go up to ₹300 crore)

The amount will be transferred directly to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts to prevent leakage and ensure transparency.


Statement by CM Rekha Gupta

Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said,
“Today we are fulfilling another promise. Poor families in Delhi will receive a free LPG cylinder on Holi and Diwali. An amount of ₹242 crore has been approved, and ₹853 will be transferred directly to beneficiaries’ accounts through DBT. All remaining promises will also be fulfilled on time.”


‘Developed Assembly, Developed Delhi’ Vision

The Chief Minister also shared on social media that the foundation of a developed Delhi is being laid through every विधानसभा (assembly constituency). Funds worth crores are being released for all areas to improve roads, strengthen water and electricity supply, upgrade infrastructure, and ensure a better and dignified life for citizens.


Major Update on Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant

CM Rekha Gupta also reviewed the progress of the 105 MGD Chandrawal Water Treatment Plant. The project has been stalled since 2012, and delays by previous governments increased its cost to nearly ₹400 crore. With support from the central government and additional funding, the project is now targeted for completion by 2026.

Once operational, the plant will provide clean drinking water to over 30 lakh people in areas such as Model Town, Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Matia Mahal, Ballimaran, Karol Bagh, Patel Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, and RK Puram. The Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure the project is completed strictly within the stipulated timeline.
