Big Relief for Rail Passengers! Fare to Get Cheaper on 10 Trains as Superfast Tag Removed

National Desk: There is good news for millions of train passengers across the country. Indian Railways has taken a major decision to remove the superfast status from 10 prominent trains. This change will come into effect between April 13 and April 16.

Once the superfast tag is removed, the ticket fares of these trains will be reduced, giving direct financial relief to passengers. These trains will now operate as regular express trains, and their train numbers will also be changed.

Which trains will be affected?

Some of the major trains from which the superfast status will be withdrawn include:

  • Prayagraj Rambagh–Howrah Vibhuti Express
    • Stops at 31 stations on its route
  • Howrah–Kalka Netaji Express (via Prayagraj Junction)
    • Has stoppages at 38 stations

According to the Railways, due to a high number of stoppages, the average speed of these trains had become similar to that of normal express trains. Hence, continuing them as superfast trains was not justified.

How much relief will passengers get?

Passengers will no longer have to pay the superfast surcharge, which earlier was added to the ticket fare:

  • Sleeper Class: around ₹30
  • AC-3 Tier / AC-2 Tier: around ₹45

With the removal of this charge, ticket prices will become cheaper.

Why were passengers complaining?

Passengers had long questioned the logic of paying a superfast charge when the trains were not running at superfast speeds. After reviewing these complaints, the Railways conducted an assessment and took this decision.

What does the Railways say?

Railway officials stated that this move will make fares more fair and reasonable, reduce the financial burden on passengers, and provide significant relief to daily commuters and long-distance travelers.
