Delhi Sightseeing Gets a New Twist: CM Rekha Gupta Launches Electric Double-Decker Bus Service; Tour Capital Landmarks for ₹500

National Desk: The Delhi government has launched a new initiative aimed at boosting tourism in the national capital. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off a special electric double-decker tourist bus service connecting Delhi’s historic and modern landmarks.

Following the inauguration, CM Rekha Gupta, Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, and senior officials travelled on the bus from Rafi Marg to the Prime Ministers’ Museum. The Tourism Department has designed a dedicated tourist circuit covering some of Delhi’s most prominent attractions, including Bharat Mandapam, the National War Memorial, the New Parliament complex, and Dilli Haat.

Special Plan for Evening Tours

According to senior tourism officials, an evening tour has also been planned under the service. Since the Prime Ministers’ Museum closes at 6 PM, evening rides will begin from the museum and proceed toward other destinations on the route.

Key Features of the Bus

The electric double-decker bus has seating capacity for 63 passengers, apart from the driver. It has been specially designed keeping in mind the geographical conditions of Lutyens’ Delhi, including low-hanging trees and overhead electric lines. A trained guide will be present onboard to provide passengers with historical and cultural information throughout the journey.

Ticket Prices

The fare structure has been set keeping both domestic and international tourists in mind:

  • Adults: ₹500 per person
  • Children (6–12 years): ₹300 per child

Return After 37 Years

The launch also marks a nostalgic moment for Delhi. Double-decker buses were last operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) under its ‘Suvidha’ service until 1989, after which they were discontinued due to an ageing fleet. Nearly 37 years later, the iconic buses have returned in a modern electric avatar, with two buses currently added to the fleet.
