Delhi Heatwave Alert: March Feels Like June as Temperature Nears 35°C — What Will Holi Weather Be Like?

Holi Weather 2026: March began on Sunday with an unexpected surge in temperatures, as intense heat conditions have already started setting in across North India. The changing weather pattern has surprised residents, with temperatures rising significantly above normal levels in several states, including the national capital, Delhi.

In Delhi-NCR, winter has virtually disappeared. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 30.7°C, nearly 4.6°C above normal. Weather forecasts suggest that temperatures in Delhi may reach around 35°C during Holi, indicating early summer-like conditions.

Over the coming days, warm winds blowing at speeds of 15–25 kmph are expected, which may increase both daytime and nighttime temperatures, adding to discomfort.

Heat Intensifies in Varanasi and Prayagraj

Rising temperatures are also being felt across Uttar Pradesh, where mercury levels in most regions are hovering between 31°C and 34°C. Cities such as Varanasi and Prayagraj are witnessing strong afternoon sunshine, making outdoor conditions uncomfortable. However, nighttime temperatures around 16°C–17°C are still providing slight relief during early mornings and late nights.

Weather Change Expected in Hill States

While plains continue to face rising heat, relief is likely in the Himalayan regions.

  • New Western Disturbance: A fresh western disturbance is expected to become active from the night of March 4.
  • Rain and Snowfall: Under its influence, light rainfall and snowfall are likely over higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between March 4 and March 7.
  • Punjab & Haryana Alert: Strong winds blowing at 20–30 kmph are forecast across Punjab and Haryana over the next 48 hours.

Overall, North India is witnessing an early onset of summer-like conditions, raising concerns about hotter days ahead as the festive season approaches.
