Accused Shami, Who Shot Dog “Shaurya,” Arrested and Sent to Judicial Custody
New Delhi: Shaurya, a dog currently battling for his life at Max Pets Hospital in Kailash Colony, New Delhi, remains in critical condition. On June 13, Shaurya was shot at close range by Mohammad Shami alias Sunny, a resident of Village Khirwa Jalalpur in Sardhana, Meerut.
As a result of the attack, Shaurya sustained severe injuries. Approximately 150 pellets have been surgically removed from his skull so far out of nearly 200 pellets lodged in his head. The remaining pellets are embedded so deeply that doctors have stated they cannot be removed and will remain in his body for the rest of his life.
Animal welfare organization Karan Puri Foundation immediately shifted Shaurya to Max Pets Hospital in Kailash Colony, New Delhi, where he continues to receive treatment. However, his condition remains critical.
Divya Puri, Founder of Karan Puri Foundation, stated that the foundation had filed a named FIR against the accused. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody.
Animal welfare activist Priya Chopra said that the dog was given the name “Shaurya.” According to her, both of Shaurya’s eyes were so severely damaged that they had to be surgically removed, leaving him permanently blind.
She further stated that in many previous cases of animal cruelty, accused individuals managed to evade legal action. However, in this case, due to the intervention of Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey and the prompt action taken by the Meerut and Sardhana Police, the accused was apprehended and brought before the law.
The foundation expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the police team for their sensitivity, compassion, and swift response throughout the case. The police action sends a strong message that those who commit cruelty against animals should not escape punishment.
Priya Chopra said, “A person capable of such brutality against a voiceless animal may also pose a threat to human beings in the future. Animal cruelty should never be taken lightly.”
The accused is currently in judicial custody, and further legal proceedings are underway. While the police continue with the legal process, efforts for Shaurya’s treatment and rehabilitation are also ongoing.
