Midnight Blaze in Delhi: Over 100 Shanties Reduced to Ashes in Shakur Basti, Fireball Lights Up the Sky
National Desk: A massive fire broke out late Friday night in Shakur Basti, located in the north-western part of Delhi, leaving widespread devastation in its wake. More than 100 shanties were gutted in the blaze, rendering several families homeless. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported, and all residents managed to escape safely, officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, the emergency call was received at 11:14 PM on Friday. Initially, five fire tenders were dispatched to the site. As the fire rapidly spread across nearly two acres, additional fire engines were rushed to contain the situation.
A DFS official stated that the fire spread quickly due to the highly flammable materials used in the shanties. “The blaze was brought under control around 12:40 AM, and cooling operations are still underway to prevent any re-ignition,” the official added.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway.
