AI171 Crash: Not Just Passengers and Doctors – These People Also Caught in Tragedy, MOCA Reveals Full Truth

Air India Crash Update: New details continue to emerge about the tragic Air India plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad on June 12. The latest revelation pertains to the individuals affected by the crash of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operating flight AI-171. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) has now confirmed that not only were passengers and doctors from BJ Medical College’s hostel impacted, but several others were also caught in the devastating incident.

According to the Ministry, Air India flight AI-171, en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, crashed around 1:40 PM on June 12. A total of 242 individuals were on board, including 230 passengers, 10 cabin crew members, and 2 pilots. Tragically, 241 people lost their lives in the crash, with just one passenger surviving the accident under miraculous circumstances.

In addition, 19 more individuals who were not on the flight also died, including daily wage workers present near the crash site. Several laborers working in the surrounding area were caught in the wreckage, highlighting the far-reaching impact of the disaster.

The Ministry further stated that Air India has, as of July 18, 2025, disbursed an interim compensation of ₹25 lakh each to the next of kin of 128 deceased individuals. The process of collecting documentation for the remaining victims is ongoing. Once interim payouts are completed, final compensation procedures will commence.

In a significant move, Air India informed that Tata Sons has registered a dedicated trust on July 18, 2025, to manage relief and rehabilitation efforts. Moreover, the airline has initiated the process to provide ₹1 crore as ex-gratia compensation to families of the deceased, with necessary paperwork currently underway.

Air India is also offering every possible assistance to the families of the deceased and injured, including flight arrangements, accommodation, medical expenses, and immediate cash support to the injured laborers affected by the crash.
