Big Relief for EV Owners: Delhi Govt Resumes Pending Subsidy Payments
National Desk: There’s great news for electric vehicle (EV) owners in Delhi. The long-delayed EV subsidy payments are finally set to be released. According to the Delhi Transport Department, around 26,800 EV owners will receive their pending subsidy payments starting December 2025. The government has approved a total fund of ₹42.5 crore for this purpose.
Background: Delhi’s EV Policy
Delhi introduced its first Electric Vehicle Policy in 2020, which remained in effect for three years. During this period, the capital witnessed a sharp rise in EV sales, emerging as one of India’s leading markets for electric mobility.
However, with delays in implementing a new policy, subsidy payments were put on hold. Thousands of EV owners were left waiting for their promised benefits. Now, the government has extended the current policy till next year and decided to release all pending subsidies in phases.
Over 26,000 Applications Approved
In the past ten months, the Transport Department received 26,862 subsidy applications. After thorough verification and removal of duplicate entries, a final list has been prepared and sent for cabinet approval. Once approved, the eligible EV owners will start receiving their subsidy amounts in installments.
Fully Digital Subsidy Process
The Delhi government is also planning to make the entire subsidy distribution process fully digital. The payment system will be integrated with the National Vahan Portal, allowing owners to apply, verify, and receive payments all through a single online platform.
Additionally, a technical committee has been formed to review new EV models and determine their eligibility for subsidies under the updated policy.
