Check-in Systems Crash at Multiple Airports Across India; 42 Flights Cancelled in Bengaluru, Impact Seen in Delhi Too

National Desk: On Wednesday morning, passengers at several major airports across the country faced severe inconvenience after the check-in systems suddenly went down. In addition, a technical glitch forced Bengaluru Airport to cancel 42 flights.

Possible Microsoft Outage Suspected

According to a PTI report, a notice issued at Varanasi Airport stated that the disruption occurred due to a global outage of Microsoft Windows, which affected the airport’s IT and check-in systems. However, there has been no immediate official statement from Microsoft or the airlines on the issue.

Due to the technical disruption, many airlines had to switch to manual check-in and boarding procedures. Services of multiple airlines—including IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air and Air India Express—were affected at the Varanasi Airport.

Chaos at Hyderabad and Bengaluru Airports

At Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, chaos was reported early in the morning as large crowds gathered at the helpdesks. A total of 7 departures and 12 arrivals were cancelled.

Bengaluru Airport also witnessed delays in several flights. IndiGo cited operational challenges and cancelled 42 flights, including 22 arrivals and 20 departures.

Delhi Airport issued an advisory on social media, warning that some domestic airlines were facing operational issues, which could affect flight schedules.

Airlines’ Updates and Relief Efforts

Air India announced that the third-party system has been restored, and check-in services are functioning normally across all airports. IndiGo said that delays and cancellations have increased due to technical issues, congestion, and operational requirements over the past few days. Affected passengers are being offered alternative flights or refunds.

It is noteworthy that just last month, more than 800 flights were delayed at Delhi Airport due to a malfunction in the AMSS system, forcing air traffic controllers to operate manually.
