Crime: 41 Women and Girls Go Missing Every Day in This State! Nearly 20,000 Missing So Far This Year — Shocking Statistics

National Desk: Cases of missing women and girls in Delhi have been rising at an alarming rate. Between January 1 and October 15 this year, a total of 19,682 people were reported missing in the national capital — of which 11,917 (61%) were women and girls. This means that on average, 41 women and girls go missing every day in Delhi.

The number of missing men stood at 7,765 (39%). According to police data, 10,780 people (55%) out of the total missing have been traced so far, including 6,541 women and girls (61%) and 4,239 men (39%). Among the missing individuals, 4,854 (25%) were children, while 14,828 (75%) were adults

Trend Over the Last 10 Years

Between 2015 and 2025, a total of 2.51 lakh (251,000) people went missing in Delhi. Of these, 1,42,037 were women and 1,09,737 were men — showing that women have consistently gone missing at a higher rate than men throughout the past decade.

Teenage Girls Most at Risk

Among the missing children, 72% are girls and 28% are boys. The most vulnerable age group is 12 to 18 years, with 4,167 missing children — including 3,258 girls (78%) and 909 boys (22%).
Police have managed to recover 68% of the missing girls (2,231) and 72% of the missing boys (653) from this age group.

Younger Age Groups

0–8 years:

  • Total missing: 304 children (124 girls — 41%, 180 boys — 59%)
  • Recovery rate: 60% for girls, 51% for boys

8–12 years:

  • Total missing: 383 children (33% girls, 67% boys)
  • Recovery rate: around 74% overall

Experts’ Warning

Experts have urged that special precautions must be taken to ensure the safety of teenage girls. Families and schools should closely monitor children’s activities and immediately inform the police in case of any suspicious disappearance.

Police officials also emphasized that early identification and prompt action in missing cases can significantly improve the chances of safe recovery and protection.
