Delhi Pollution Vehicle Ban: Your Car May Not Be Allowed Entry in Delhi From November 1 – Know the New Rules Before You Travel
National Desk: In a major move to combat rising air pollution, the Delhi government has announced strict restrictions on the entry of certain vehicles into the national capital. Starting November 1, commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi that do not meet the BS-VI emission norms will be banned from entering the city.
Why This Decision Was Taken
Every year, from October to January, the air quality in Delhi-NCR worsens to dangerous levels. The main reasons include emissions from vehicles, stubble burning in neighboring states, and unfavorable weather conditions. To tackle this, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directed the transport department to impose tighter control on polluting vehicles.
The primary objective of this ban is to restrict older and more polluting diesel-run goods carriers that release higher levels of particulate matter and nitrogen oxides into the air. Vehicles compliant with BS-VI emission standards produce significantly lower pollution.
Key Rules of the New Ban
According to the notice issued by the Transport Department:
- From November 1, 2025, only BS-VI compliant commercial goods vehicles will be allowed to enter Delhi.
- This rule mainly affects commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi that are currently running on older emission standards.
Temporary Relief for BS-IV Vehicles
Commercial goods vehicles registered outside Delhi but compliant with BS-IV standards will get temporary relaxation.
- These vehicles can enter Delhi only until October 31, 2026.
- After this, only BS-VI compliant vehicles will be allowed inside Delhi.
Vehicles Exempt From the Ban
The following vehicles will NOT be restricted:
- All commercial goods vehicles registered in Delhi.
- BS-VI compliant diesel vehicles (meeting the latest emission norms).
- BS-IV diesel vehicles (allowed only until October 31, 2026).
- Vehicles running on CNG, LNG, or electricity, as they are considered environmentally cleaner.
