DEVi Buses Hit the Roads: Delhi’s Push Toward Sustainable Transport

The Delhi government has launched a new electric bus service called the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVi), marking a major step toward green transportation. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta flagged off the 9-meter-long electric buses, designed for comfort, sustainability, and improved last-mile connectivity. Supported by key Union Ministers and the central government, the DEVi project aims to replace aging buses and serve inner-city routes with 1,456 eco-friendly buses, eventually converting 80% of Delhi’s public transport fleet to electric. These buses offer features like low-floor access, wheelchair ramps, pink reserved seats for women, real-time tracking, and air suspension.

Over 400 DEVi buses have already started operating in East and West Delhi, with fares ranging from ₹10 to ₹25—free for women. Operated every 10 minutes, these buses are also driven by women, reflecting gender inclusivity. The initiative is powered by PMI Electro Mobility, whose CEO Dr. Aanchal Jain expressed pride in contributing to a cleaner and greener Delhi.
