Heavy Rain Alert: IMD Issues High Alert for Several States from October 5 to 9

National Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a warning on Saturday, October 4, forecasting heavy rainfall over eastern India, eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Sikkim in the next 24 hours, with expected rainfall of 21 centimeters or more in these areas.

According to the IMD, continuous heavy rainfall may persist in West Bengal, Sikkim, and Bihar until October 6. During this period, storms and very heavy rainfall are also expected in eastern Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, and the Ganga plains of West Bengal. Winds of 30–40 km/h are likely across eastern India over the next five days. Eastern Uttar Pradesh, in particular, may witness extremely heavy rainfall today.

In northern India, rainfall is expected in parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh from October 5 to 7, accompanied by lightning, thunder, and strong winds. The IMD has also issued an alert for very heavy rainfall and hail in northern India on October 6.

The IMD has further warned that strong winds in Uttarakhand may continue until October 8. In the northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura—intermittent heavy rainfall is likely until October 9.

In southern India, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall along with strong winds over the next five days.
