IndiGo Delhi-Goa Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Mumbai After Mid-Air Engine Snag

Mumbai, — An IndiGo flight bound for Goa from New Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Mumbai on Wednesday night after a technical issue was detected mid-air, prompting swift action by the flight crew and airport authorities.
Flight 6E 6271, an Airbus A320neo carrying 191 passengers and crew members, had departed from Indira Gandhi International Airport and was cruising approximately 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar when the cockpit crew identified an engine-related anomaly. Reacting promptly, the pilots issued a “PAN PAN PAN” distress signal at around 9:32 PM — a standard aviation protocol used to indicate a situation requiring urgent attention, though not an immediate threat to life.
The flight was rerouted to Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), where a full emergency was declared at 9:35 PM. Emergency response units, including fire tenders and ambulances, were deployed along the runway and remained on standby as a precautionary measure.
The aircraft landed safely at 9:52 PM and was escorted to the parking bay without further incident. The emergency status was officially lifted at 9:57 PM. All passengers disembarked safely and were assisted by terminal personnel.
In an official statement, a CSMIA spokesperson confirmed that airport operations remained unaffected during the emergency:
“The aircraft safely landed at 21:52 hours. The complete emergency was cancelled at 21:57 hours. Passengers were safely disembarked and handled by terminal personnel.”
IndiGo also issued a statement on Thursday, confirming the incident and reassuring the public about the safety of those on board:
“A technical snag was noticed on flight 6E 6271 during flight from Delhi to Manohar International Airport, Goa, on 16 July 2025. Following protocol, the flight was diverted and landed in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai.”
The airline stated that the aircraft will remain grounded for a thorough technical inspection before returning to service. Alternate travel arrangements were being made for passengers to continue their journey to Goa.
Airport sources added that CSMIA’s terminal operations team remained on high alert throughout the evening to ensure seamless handling of the situation. Thanks to timely coordination between the crew and ground teams, what could have escalated into a serious emergency was resolved safely and efficiently.
