Kanwar Yatra 2025: Massive Crowd of Devotees Gathers at Lahra Ganga Ghat Ahead of Second Monday, Security Tightened

Kasganj: The Kanwar Yatra has picked up momentum as the sacred month of Sawan progresses. A huge crowd of Shiva devotees has gathered at Lahra Ganga Ghat to collect holy water for the upcoming second Monday of Sawan, which is considered highly auspicious. From Saturday to Monday, the roads are witnessing a steady flow of Kanwar pilgrims. The administration has made extensive arrangements to manage the increasing footfall.

Devotees from nearby towns and villages have started arriving at the ghat in large numbers to fill their kanwars with the holy Ganga water. These will be offered to Lord Shiva on Monday. Officials estimate that over 2 lakh Kanwariyas are expected to collect Ganga water from Lahra Ghat by the second Monday.

Surge in Devotees Before Second Monday

Between Tuesday and Saturday, thousands of Kanwariyas from distant regions and different states have already passed through after collecting Ganga water. Now, for Saturday and Sunday, a heavy rush of local devotees is being witnessed at the ghat. The influx is expected to continue late into Sunday night, after which the yatra activity will slightly reduce from Monday onward. Meanwhile, Dak Kanwars—a high-speed version of the pilgrimage—are also gaining popularity.

Devotees, often traveling in private vehicles with loud DJ sound systems, are heading toward Lahra Ghat, turning the entire district into a spiritual and festive zone.

Tight Security and Devotional Vibes on the Streets

Chanting “Bam Bam Bhole,” Kanwariyas are marching barefoot on the roads. The jingling of bells tied to their kanwars and anklets on their feet is adding to the devotional atmosphere. The whole environment is soaked in spiritual energy, attracting attention from locals and passersby.

Given the growing crowd, the administration has implemented strict security measures. Officials are frequently inspecting arrangements to ensure everything is under control.

Safety Warnings Near the Ghat

Although the water level in the Ganga has recently decreased, authorities are taking no chances. Warning signs have been installed at various points along the riverbanks. Police teams are actively cautioning pilgrims not to venture into deep waters, and steamer patrols are being run for added safety.

The PAC Flood Unit has been deployed at the ghat, along with private swimmers hired by the district administration to assist in emergencies.

Crowds Continue Even at Night

Even during the night hours, Kanwariyas continue to arrive at the ghat. Many decorate their kanwars and perform rituals under the moonlight before starting their journey, chanting “Har Har Gange” and “Bam Bam Bhole” with full devotion.

According to pilgrims, traveling at night is easier, as it spares them from the harsh daytime heat. Rain or heat—nothing seems to deter their unwavering enthusiasm and faith.

DJ Music Blends Bhajans and Patriotism

The Kanwar Yatra this year is marked not just by devotion but also by patriotic fervor. Vehicles in the Dak Kanwar processions are decked out with saffron flags alongside the Indian tricolor. Powerful DJ systems blast not only Shiva bhajans but also patriotic songs, creating a unique devotional-patriotic atmosphere.

One touching sight is that of devotees carrying kanwars for their elderly parents, evoking comparisons to Shravan Kumar from Hindu mythology. These scenes have become a special attraction among onlookers.
