Massive Fire Erupts in Bhubaneswar’s Largest Market; 30 Shops Gutted, Loss Worth Crores

National Desk: A massive fire broke out on Wednesday at Unit-I Haat, the largest daily market in Bhubaneswar, Odisha’s capital, destroying around 30 shops and causing property damage worth crores of rupees, officials said. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

Chief Fire Officer Ramesh Chandra Maji stated that the fire started around 2:30 p.m. in a grocery shop and quickly spread to nearby stores due to the presence of flammable materials. He added that 11 fire tenders and 140 personnel were deployed to the site to bring the blaze under control.

Maji further mentioned that the fire department received the call at 2:40 p.m., and firefighters reached the spot within five minutes. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das said that the unplanned structure of the market made firefighting operations challenging for the fire personnel.
