Monsoon Mayhem in Delhi-NCR: Heavy Rains Trigger Waterlogging and Massive Traffic Jams

Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Heavy monsoon showers lashed Delhi-NCR this morning, throwing life out of gear across several parts of the region. From Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad to Greater Noida — continuous downpour since early morning has caused severe waterlogging on major roads, underpasses, and residential streets, bringing traffic to a standstill. Several vehicles broke down amid flooded roads, leaving commuters stuck in jams for hours.
Roads Turn into Rivers, Traffic Crawls Across the Capital
The situation on Delhi’s roads worsened drastically post-rainfall. Areas like Burari, Patel Nagar, Dhaula Kuan, ITO, Naraina, Vijay Chowk, and Jangpura reported severe waterlogging, making roads look like temporary ponds. The water was so deep in places that potholes disappeared from view, increasing the risk of accidents manifold.
Commuters Hit Hard During Office Hours
The worst-hit were office-goers who stepped out during peak hours. Slippery roads and flooded streets brought traffic to a crawl. Major stretches like Delhi-Noida Link Road, Rohini, Dwarka, and NH-9 saw long traffic snarls. Even school buses were caught in the chaos, leading to delays and distress for children and parents alike.
IMD Issues Red Alert for Heavy Rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for heavy rain in Delhi-NCR. According to forecasts, the downpour is expected to continue until Monday afternoon, followed by spells of light to moderate rain over the coming days. While the rains have brought some respite from heat and pollution, they have once again exposed the capital’s poor drainage and monsoon preparedness.
