Noida’s Stray Animal Crisis Turns Deadly – Shocking Attack Figures Revealed

Noida News: What was once a rising concern in Noida has now snowballed into a full-blown public safety crisis. The menace of stray animals in the city is no longer just an inconvenience—it has become life-threatening. Between January and May 2025, Gautam Buddh Nagar district recorded a staggering 74,550 cases of animal attacks, with the majority involving stray dogs.

According to official health department data, stray dog bites alone account for 52,714 of these incidents. The remaining attacks were caused by pet dogs (16,474 cases), monkeys (3,833), and cats (1,179). The numbers reflect a disturbing trend that shows no signs of slowing down.

A Deepening Public Health Crisis
The latest figures from the Health Department paint a grim picture. Far from being a minor urban nuisance, the situation has escalated into a public health emergency. On average, 15,000 people are attacked by animals every month in Noida—translating to around 500 cases every single day.

What makes this situation even more alarming is the increasing number of unprovoked attacks, many of which have been captured on CCTV. In several videos, stray dogs are seen aggressively lunging at children and adults alike, sparking widespread fear among residents.

Authorities Identify Hotspots, Implementing Rapid Response
Dr. Tikam Singh, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Noida, confirmed the rise in attack cases and said that a multi-agency action plan is underway. The Health Department, Animal Husbandry Department, and Noida Authority are jointly working to identify hotspot areas where the number of incidents is significantly high.

“We are focusing on mapping the most affected zones and swiftly implementing control measures,” said Dr. Singh.

Political Backlash: Akhilesh Yadav Labels It ‘Canine Crisis’
Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has lashed out at the government, calling the situation a ‘Shvaan Sankat’ (Canine Crisis). In a strong-worded statement, he questioned whether the administration has any concrete plan in place to tackle the menace.

He warned that public frustration could soon boil over into vigilantism, potentially worsening the crisis. “Will this also be handled by the same kind of inactive officers who failed in managing cattle protection?” he asked, drawing parallels with earlier governance failures.

Once a Model City, Now Facing Urban Breakdown
Noida, once hailed for its clean infrastructure and well-planned civic amenities, is now grappling with a severe urban crisis. What began as a stray dog issue has morphed into a broader public safety concern, threatening to erode the city’s image and quality of life.

Residents and health experts alike are demanding that authorities go beyond data collection and enforce strict, on-ground measures to bring the situation under control before it spirals further.
