RSS’s Dattatreya Honours the Legacy of Raj Darbhangaat a National Seminar

New Delhi,  – In a spirited tribute to the enduring role of Raj Darbhanga in shaping Bharat’s identity, a landmark seminar titled “Contribution of Raj Darbhanga in the Spiritual, Cultural and Nation-Building of India” convened leading thinkers, policymakers, and cultural patrons in the capital today. After independence, the striking down of Bihar Land Reforms Law by Patna High Court after Kameshwar Singh challenged it led the Jawaharlal Nehru government to enact First Constitutional Amendment in 1951to shield land-reforms law from judicial scrutiny. Raj Darbhanga’s Kameshwar Singh had fought to uphold ‘the right to property’ by challenging the law.

The seminar was graced by RSS General Secretary Shri Dattatreya Hosabale and Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav, who highlighted the unparalleled contributions of the Darbhanga Royals in patronising art, culture, spiritual institutions, and education across centuries.

The event also marked the launch of the book “Raj Darbhanga: Dharma Sanrakshan se Lok Kalyan” authored by noted writer Shri Tejakar Jha, chronicling the dynasty’s historic role in national and cultural life. Adding to the significance of the day, it coincided with the 18th birthday of Kumar Arihant Singh, the youngest scion of the Darbhanga royal lineage.

RSS Tribute to Darbhanga Legacy

Speaking at the event, Shri Dattatreya Hosabale praised the vision of successive Maharajas of Darbhanga, who provided unflinching support to temple restoration, higher education, and preservation of India’s scriptural and cultural heritage during colonial times. He urged citizens to draw inspiration from Darbhanga’s policies and imbibe the tradition of promoting learning and culture.

Referring to the yeoman service Raj Darbhanga rendered for the upliftment and empowerment of the poor and the masses, Shri Hosabale ji said, “Compared to Europe where the prevailing narrative is that Kings have always lived a life of pomp and grandeur oppressing their subjects, in India Kings have been considered as a form of Vishnu. The reason is that kings in India, including Raj Darbhanga, have been influenced by the likes of Lord Ram, Raja Janak, Harishchandra working relentlessly for the enriching the lives of the subjects through developmental works. “

Government Commitment to Bihar’s Revival

Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav reaffirmed the government’s dedication to rekindling the cultural and educational prominence of Mithila and Bihar. Drawing from his past association with the region, he emphasised the need to honour its glory through sustainable development and cultural revival projects.

“Mithila, since the time of Raja Janak, has always been a bedrock of knowledge and spiritual wealth, where erudite scholars have been born and Raj Darbhanga has been at the forefront for the upkeep, patronise and propagation of this culture.” Shri Yadav said. Headded that Mithila has inspired the country’s overall cultural milieu to a great extent especially the philosophical outlook.

Darbhanga Royals on Continuing Philanthropy

Addressing the gathering, Kumar Kapileshwar Singh spoke about the ongoing charitable and cultural initiatives undertaken by the Darbhanga family trusts. He noted that the family’s priorities continue to include investments in education, health, heritage restoration, and cultural promotion, extending their age-old ethos of service in a modern context.

“I am proud to be born in a family which has always prioritised philanthropic activities over others. With utmost sincerity, dedication and guided by your wise counsel, I shall continue to carry forward these traditions.” Kumarji said.
