Two Free LPG Cylinders: Big Relief for Delhi Ration Card Holders; Free Gas Cylinders on Holi and Diwali
National Desk: This year’s Holi and Diwali are set to bring major relief for middle- and low-income families in Delhi. Amid rising inflation and increasing household expenses, the Delhi government has announced the distribution of two free LPG cylinders annually to ration card holders. The scheme, aimed at strengthening social welfare support, will be formally launched by the President.
Relief for 15.5 Lakh Families
According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the primary objective of the initiative is to reduce the financial burden on households during festive seasons. Nearly 15.5 lakh ration card holder families across Delhi will benefit from the scheme, offering significant support to families struggling with rising cooking gas prices.
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) System
To ensure transparency and convenience, the government will implement the scheme through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Beneficiaries will not need to visit government offices. Instead, the market price of one LPG cylinder will be directly transferred to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the ration card holder.
The financial assistance will be provided twice a year—once during Holi and once during Diwali.
Officials believe the move will help reduce household cooking expenses and enable families to celebrate festivals with dignity. At a time when LPG prices continue to fluctuate, the scheme is being seen as an important step toward meeting essential needs and promoting social welfare in the national capital.
