Heavy Rain Alert: IMD Warns of Rain, Snowfall and Strong Winds Till February 9
National Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather forecast for North India for the coming week, warning of significant changes due to multiple western disturbances. According to India Meteorological Department, three western disturbances are expected to affect the region within a week, bringing snowfall to hilly areas and rain to the plains.
The first impact will begin on the night of February 5, while the second system will become active from the night of February 8. The IMD has issued an alert for rain, snowfall and strong winds from February 5 to February 9.
Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir
The weather department has warned of snowfall and rainfall in these states. Dense fog is also likely in several areas. In higher reaches, snowfall may continue on February 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Plains of North and Central India
Light to moderate rainfall is likely on February 9 in many parts of north and central India. This may lead to a drop in temperatures, intensifying the cold conditions.
Weather in Madhya Pradesh
In western Madhya Pradesh, dense fog is expected during morning and night hours on February 5 and 6. Light rainfall is also likely in some areas.
Weather in Uttar Pradesh
Dense fog is likely to prevail over several parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Cities such as Lucknow, Agra, Bulandshahr, Kanpur, Ghaziabad and Noida are expected to witness reduced visibility due to fog. According to IMD, wind direction will change to northwesterly from Wednesday, which may cause night temperatures to drop by around 5°C over the next three days, while daytime temperatures may rise. On February 6, 7 and 8, northwesterly winds may blow at speeds of up to 20 km per hour.
Rain and Snowfall Outlook
Light to moderate rain and snowfall are likely in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. In addition, light rainfall is expected in Uttar Pradesh, eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Weather in Maharashtra
No major change in temperature is expected in Maharashtra over the next 24 hours. However, minimum temperatures may fall by 2–3°C during the following two days.
