Air India A350 Makes Emergency Landing After Mid-Air Scare on New York–Delhi Flight
An Air India flight (AI102) from New York to Delhi triggered panic mid-air after a technical issue caused intense vibrations and unusual noise. The incident occurred about six hours into the journey while the aircraft was flying over the Atlantic Ocean.
Prioritizing passenger safety, the pilot diverted the aircraft to Shannon Airport in Ireland for an emergency landing.
Tense Six Hours in the Air
According to flight tracking data, the aircraft remained airborne for nearly six hours before landing safely in Shannon at around 4:30 AM local time on March 15. Passengers reportedly experienced high levels of stress during the ordeal. Air India clarified that the landing was precautionary to avoid any potential risk.
Concerns Over New Aircraft
What has raised eyebrows is that the aircraft involved was a newly inducted Airbus A350, added to Air India’s fleet in April 2024. The sudden occurrence of vibrations and noise in such an advanced aircraft has prompted concern among experts and the airline.
The aircraft is currently stationed at Shannon Airport, where engineers are conducting a detailed inspection.
Air India’s Official Statement
In its statement, Air India said, “There can be no compromise on safety standards. Flight AI102 was diverted as a precaution. We regret the inconvenience caused to passengers.”
The airline also assured that alternative arrangements are being made to transport passengers to Delhi.
