Elon Musk, PM Modi Discuss Innovation Amid Tesla, Starlink’s India Plans
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to talk about the possibilities of technology collaboration and innovation. The meeting is an extension of their previous interaction in Washington DC and marks intensifying relationships between India and the U.S. in high-tech fields.
PM Modi posted on X that the conversation addressed shared interests, reaffirming India’s pledge to driving U.S. alliances forward. This is amid Tesla and Starlink’s moves into the Indian market.
Starlink, the satellite internet division of SpaceX, is waiting for government approval in the wake of pending spectrum policy decisions. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal recently met with Starlink officials to consider their proposals. Rivals Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Jio Satellite have already got licenses but are waiting for spectrum allocation to roll out services.
Talks on a wider India-U.S. trade deal are also in progress, with the first phase to be completed by fall 2025.
